It’s day four of a rain-affected round of County Championship fixtures as the season enters its final month. Tanya Aldred will bring you all the action from around the grounds.
Matthias Jaissle’s Newcastle have taken four points from what should have been a tricky opening pair of fixtures, against Newcastle and Tottenham, so will be confident of a victory that would take them temporarily top of the table. Bournemouth are yet to win and are cursing their inability to see out games, having conceded a 92nd-minute winner against Manchester City and a 91st-minute equaliser against Everton. David Tindall is on liveblog duty, Louise Taylor reports from St James’ Park.
There are five 3pm Premier League kick-offs for Rob Smyth to keep his eye on in the blog. Brentford face Sunderland, Brighton welcome Leeds to the south coast, Fulham and Crystal Palace meet in a London derby, Manchester City take on Coventry in a battle of the Sky Blues and winless Tottenham travel to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest. And we’ll have live updates from the Championship, Bundesliga and beyond.
Philip Cornwall is at the wheel as F1 screeches on to the track at Monza, where Max Verstappen has won three of the last four editions of the Italian GP. His Red Bull doesn’t look quick enough to challenge this time around however, and Lando Norris in the McLaren has taken the last two poles of the 2026 season, breaking the Mercedes stranglehold at the front of the grid. The third round continues at Flushing Meadows, where plenty of big names are in action in the women’s singles – Elena Rybakina, Naomi Osaka, Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek all continue their campaigns on a bumper Saturday. The Greatest Rivalry series has done a decent job of living up to its name thus far with the Springboks taking the opener and the All Blacks levelling things up at Ellis Park last weekend. Now for the third Test. Daniel Gallan helms the blog and Gerard Meagher reports.

David Moyes’s side are unbeaten in their first two Premier League games, however, and might fancy their chances against a United side still finding their feet.
