Dr Marcia Langton tells the royal commission into antisemitism and social cohesion of the difficulty of teaching children about racism and hate, due to the trauma it could create for vulnerable children. She recalls her experience with her own daughter who came home from high school and demanded to know why Langton hadn’t told her that ‘my grandfather's people were victims of an attempt to exterminate them’. ‘I hadn't told her anything about the frontier wars,’ Langton says, ‘because I didn't want her to be burdened with the trauma of knowing just how horrible it was ... We have to be very careful about how we introduce this material into the classroom'
