According to The Hindu, a cyber crime investigation in Hyderabad uncovered a mule account network linked to nearly 450 cases across India. The network was exposed after a resident was cheated of money under the promise of a large sum for an old currency note.

Uncovering the Cyber Fraud Network

According to The Hindu, an investigation into a cyber fraud case in Hyderabad has led to the discovery of a large mule account network.

Police found that this network is linked to nearly 450 cases across India.

Transactions involving this network are estimated to be between ₹60 crore and ₹70 crore.

The probe started after a resident filed a complaint regarding a scam involving an old currency note.

Police say both arrested accused were aware that the accounts and SIM cards would be used to commit cyber fraud.

They continued supplying them for financial gain despite knowing the illegal nature of the activity.

Why This Financial Scam Matters

Financial frauds like this impact everyday citizens who fall victim to promises of high returns.

Criminals exploit banking channels to hide illicit funds, which affects the safety of digital transactions.

The operation of mule accounts creates severe risks for the entire financial system.

According to The Hindu, financial transactions flowed through these accounts.

Background of the Investigation

According to The Hindu, the investigation began following a complaint received on September 25.

A man reported that he was approached through Facebook by fraudsters offering ₹45 lakh in exchange for an old ₹1 currency note.

The fraudsters induced him to transfer ₹7,93,351 but failed to honour their promise.

Based on this complaint, the Cyber Crime Police registered a case under provisions of the Information Technology Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Police tracked the financial transactions and identified the involvement of individuals facilitating the movement of funds.

Two persons were subsequently arrested on October 8 by a team led by Inspector M. Surendar.

The accused collected bank passbooks, ATM and debit cards, internet banking credentials, and SIM cards from approximately 60 to 70 persons.

These items were then sent by courier to associates in Haryana.

What Happens Next in the Case

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the financial network and tracing other suspects.

Legal proceedings will follow as police examine the full extent of the mule accounts.

  1. Police may question additional suspects linked to the network.
  2. Authorities could track further financial transactions across India.
  3. Investigators might trace absconding associates operating from other states.
  4. Courts will handle the prosecution under the Information Technology Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
