Nick Woltemade is close to a loan move from Newcastle to Juventus, a year after arriving at St James’ Park in a club-record £69m deal from Stuttgart. The gifted Germany forward has struggled to impose himself amid the high-intensity gameplans choreographed first by Eddie Howe and now Matthias Jaissle.

Juventus are one of a handful of clubs – Borussia Dortmund are among the others – to have inquired about Woltemade’s availability and Newcastle are in negotiations with the Turin club regarding a move involving a loan fee of about £5m.
Any switch for the 24-year-old appears contingent on Matias Fernandez-Pardo completing a £51m move from Lille. The 21-year-old Belgium international was top of Jaissle’s wish list and is due in Newcastle for a medical. He can play across the front line, including as a No 10.
Woltemade is unlikely to be the only player leaving before the deadline on Tuesday night. The winger Jacob Murphy is wanted by Nottingham Forest, Nick Pope – Jaissle’s third-choice goalkeeper – is looking for a new club and Besiktas retain an interest in Joe Willock.
Pope, who started last season as Howe’s first choice and harboured then-realistic ambitions to be part of England’s World Cup squad, wants first-team football after falling behind the new signings Lukas Hornicek and Ewen Jaouen.Willock has impressed Jaissle and, despite offers from Istanbul, an exit that looked inevitable under Howe may be postponed.
Everton have agreed a £40m fee with Monaco for the striker Folarin Balogun . The USA international has attracted interest all summer after impressing at the World Cup, where he gained notoriety for having his red card punishment suspended after an intervention from Donald Trump.
Although born in New York, Balogun was brought up in London and started his career at Arsenal. He made 10 senior Arsenal appearances , and had loans at Middlesbrough and Reims, before being sold in 2023 to Monaco, where he was the player of the year last season after scoring 13 goals in 30 Ligue 1 appearances.Balogun is regarded as a replacement for Beto , who has had a medical with Fiorentina after an offer of about £15m was accepted.
The deal for Balogun limits the chances of Richarlison returning to Everton from Tottenham.
Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Allan Elias from Palmeiras in a €37.5m (£32.1m) plus €2.5m deal. The 22-year-old wide forward made his debut for Palmeiras last year and has made 96 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals and making 12 assists.
Allan is City’s third major acquisition of the window after Elliot Anderson, for £116m, and Ayyoub Bouaddi, for £85m. City are open to a loan for Jack Grealish, with Everton hopeful of taking the 30-year-old midfielder.
“This is a surreal moment for me,” Allan said. “Manchester City, with everything they have won over the past 15 years, are one of the most attractive clubs in the world for players. To be able to sit here today and say I have joined them is the proudest moment of my life.”
Crystal Palace are poised to sign the Atalanta defender Honest Ahanor on loan. The 18‑year‑old will join Chelsea on a permanent deal for £40m next summer but is due to gain experience of English football by spending this season at Palace.
Palace have signed Axel Disasi on loan from Chelsea so would not have been able to borrow Ahanor if he had completed his transfer to Stamford Bridge during this window.
Palace have had a disappointing start, losing their first two games under Pierre Sage, and face an uncertain end to the window. Nottingham Forest have completed the £22m signing of the Colombia wing-back Daniel Muñoz from Palace, reuniting him with Oliver Glasner, but have had a bid for Dean Henderson rejected.
Palace are keen on the Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Hugo Larsson . The 22-year-old is a Sweden international.
Liverpool are monitoring the Senegal winger Ismaïla Sarr but Palace are determined not to sell him or the midfielder Adam Wharton, who is of interest to Chelsea.
Hull are interested in taking Dário Essugo on loan from Chelsea. The midfielder joined from Sporting last summer but is not part of Xabi Alonso’s plans.
Brighton are pushing to complete a deal for Millwall’s Femi Azeez . Millwall want £15m for the forward, who was in the 2025-26 Championship team of the season. Brighton are yet to meet the 25-year-old’s valuation but there is an expectation the deal will go through.
Unai Emery said he expects Ibrahim Mbaye and Taylor Harwood-Bellis to be Aston Villa’s final arrivals of the transfer window. Both attended Villa’s home defeat by Arsenal on Monday.
Emery said Tammy Abraham has decided against a move to Ipswich and will stay at Villa to compete for his place. “Tammy Abraham’s decision is to stay here,” Emery said. “We opened the door for him but he’s decided to stay here with us. I am going to be very demanding with him to add his qualities with us.”
Mbaye’s £47m move from Paris Saint-Germain and Harwood-Bellis’s £25m signing from Southampton are expected to be finalised on Tuesday.
