The US has imposed 50% tariffs on some Canadian goods after trade talks between the two countries collapsed , with Canadian prime minister Mark Carney vowing to respond “dollar for dollar”.

As part of the proposed deal, Carney had asked provinces to lift their boycotts of US alcohol, which were introduced in response to earlier tariffs. The boycott has been part of a wider shift in Canadian shopping habits: an Angus Reid survey last month found 40% of grocery shoppers were actively checking where products came from , with most of those avoiding US products where possible.
