A new start after 60 in an old occupation

BusinessThe Guardian

Living with nostalgia as I am, I enjoyed solving the Wordsearch in Monday’s paper featuring old occupations. However, the man described as a “grocer” in your feature ( A new start after 60, 24 August ) is surely a green grocer. Could that word have been included in the Wordsearch as an “old occupation”, or just an old word?

• I daresay not many people knew about the Serbelloni group’s findings ( Letters, 25 August ). However, millions watched the machines crushing humanity in The Terminator a dozen years later, in 1984. We can’t say that we weren’t warned.

• “Extreme heat shows urgency of promoting cycling and walking over cars”, says your headline in the print edition (26 August). Well, that is one way to discourage motorists.

• We are nearly at the end of August, but as yet no Christmas catalogues have arrived in the post. What is going on?

• I enthusiastically support Alan Wordsworth’s suggestion that you should only print letters from people with appropriate names ( Letters, 26 August ).

• If you adopted the suggestion from Alan Wordsworth, I’m afraid I wouldn’t stand a chance.

• It is a tragedy that so many pubs are closing.
